The Michigan Winery Hiking Trail is a 120-mile long trail that loops around the state of Michigan. It was created by the Michigan Grape and Wine Industry Council to promote the state's wine industry.
The trail is split into two sections, a northern loop and a southern loop, which meet up at Lake Erie. The northern loop starts in Leelanau County and heads eastward to Lake Huron, while the southern loop starts in Monroe County and heads westward to Lake Erie.
The second day on the trail was a bit more strenuous than the first. The terrain was more difficult and there were a lot of hills. The winery at the end of the day was worth all of the work though.
We woke up to a beautiful, sunny morning, and we were ready to hit the trail with renewed energy. We had breakfast at our campsite before heading out, with eggs and bacon cooked over an open fire. We packed up our campsite, which consisted of just two tents, sleeping bags, clothes, and some food for snacks along the way.
We set off from our campsite around 10am and headed towards Ridge Hill Farm Winery in Bloomfield Hills. It is about a three-hour hike from where we started at Belle Taine Winery near Lake Orion.Once we reached the winery, we were given the opportunity to have a tour of the grounds and taste some wine. We had bought tickets in advance so there was no wait to get their but if you are looking for a quick stop, this might not be the best place to go since they only do tours on Saturday mornings.
The third day on the Michigan Winery Hiking Trail was a little different than the first two. We had to cross water, we walked through a swamp, and we crossed a creek.
We woke up early to get an early start on the day. The plan was to hike 7 miles in order to get back on track with our original schedule. We were really excited because this would be our longest hike of the week and we were looking forward to it!
We started off by crossing the creek and then walking through some swampy areas before arriving at the first vineyard of the day. This vineyard was called Vin de Vie and they had some really cool fruit trees that I never knew existed! After that, we hiked through more forest until we arrived at our second vineyard , Terragone! This vineyard, called Tavernelle, was a family winery that had been passed down through generations. My favorite part of this experience was tasting and sampling many different types of wines. I also learned so much about the history behind every winery we visited!

Caberfae Peaks was founded in 1956 by the Kohn family. It was named after the Caberfeidh mountains in Scotland where they had vacationed many times before moving to Michigan.
The Kohn family originally opened up their own ski area because they were unhappy with the other resorts around them at the time. They wanted to create an affordable place where people could enjoy skiing with their families without having to pay exorbitant rates and live in lodges with other people they didn't know. There are a lot of places that have gone the same route, but we wanted to start small."Today, the resort maintains a vertical drop of 1,148 feet at its summit and has more than 450 acres of skiable terrain.
